Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Jennifer was educated in Toronto, Canada, studying design and painting at Central Technical School. While working for several years as an art director in advertising and publishing, she continued to study art at Three Schools in Toronto, Basic Inquiry in Vancouver and Haliburton School of Fine Arts. Jennifer has been exhibiting paintings in galleries such as RedEye in Toronto for over 20 years, and now teaches drawing and painting to adults at the Avenue Road Arts School.

Hinrichs is fascinated by the human figure, and its relationship to both interiors and landscape. Her focus is on the use of strong underlying structure and color to support figures and images that evoke memory and emotion, often using old family photographs as reference. Working mainly in acrylic and pastel Hinrichs interprets freely from nature, though her work is based in realism. Her drawings and paintings are represented in private collections across North America and Bermuda, where, she was Artist in Residence for the Masterworks Foundation is 2004.
