Brohier was trained in traditional photographic and darkroom techniques and methods while attending the University of Toronto, School of Architecture in the early 1980s. He has taken various courses and seminars in photography that contributed to his development as a photographer over this past twenty-five years. A Visual Sociologist , Brohier is called upon to exercise his skills as a photographer. He has created numerous bodies of work. Brohier considers that he is self taught as a photographer, as well as the development of his personal esthetic.

Russell’s academic studies as a Visual Sociologist , his Cultural Studies, and natural interest in art history allow him to continue to expand his knowledge base. He has served as a Docent at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
Brohier travels and exhibits extensively. He has been instrumental in working with the Artist’s Network in Toronto. His photographs are widely collected .
