Westview Artists

Tuesday’s with Pauline forged an eclectic group of passionate painters of watercolour and acrylic mediums expressed through the magic of laughter, food and friendship at Pauline Holancin’s creative art studio over the past twenty years.  In celebration of this special group dynamic we are pleased to present a selection of original artworks of the Westview Artists and a retrospective of the late watercolour painter Dorothy Blefgen.

Vivian Berard

When I retired from a long career in teaching, I succumbed to the urge to try painting.  I was particularly drawn to the transparent quality of watercolours and consider myself fortunate to have had many excellent instructors and workshops along the way.  I presently study with Pauline Holancin.

Holly Blefgen, TWS

Watercolour painting is a wonderful escape from the crazed world of business!  I strive to capture the essence of the subject of study, exploring harmony, colour, light, shadow, balance and flow!  Painting with my parents, Pauline and fellow artists has been an inspirational journey!

Ralph Blefgen, TWS

After my retirement, Dorothy and I were fortunate to join Margaret Roseman’s watercolour classes and later Pauline Holancin’s group at Tamarack Studios, and there, we found our home.  As artists, painting changed the way we see the world.  We became acutely aware of pushing colour in nature, in still life, building structures, and those distant hills were no longer gray but alive with cobalt blue, mineral violet or magenta.   The world of Watercolour expanded our horizons and enriched our lives.

After a nursing career I began painting. I was privileged to join Pauline Holancin’s watercolour classes where we not only shared the same goal to paint beautiful works of art, but found mentoring and lifelong friendships.  I have been teaching watercolour classes in Hilton Head Island for four years. I feel very passionate about passing on the knowledge that I have gained as painting is my way of expressing the beauty that surrounds us.

My watercolour, acrylic and mixed media paintings cover a wide variety of subject matter – landscapes, florals, farm animals and people, architecture, impressionism and abstracts.  I have exhibited at the Loft Gallery in Clarksburg, the Georgina Art Centre in Sutton and have won many awards in art shows held in Ontario.  Recently, one of my florals was chosen for the Spring Edition of Arabella Magazine and all of my work can be viewed at my home in Sutton on the Georgina Studio Tour, Sept. 28-29, 2013 and on my website: www.lindahobson.com

Still passionate about painting after forty-five years,  I am completely dedicated to my life in art and consider it a great privilege to share it with others.  My many wonderful students have become true friends and we support each other on this incredibly interesting ‘art’ journey.  Truly, it is the journey which brings the greatest rewards, not the destination.

Bonnie (Kathleen) Keberer

Born in Toronto, I graduated in Commercial Art from Western Tech.  I worked in advertising, both as a layout artist and illustrator for 36 years.  Upon retirement I studied figure drawing with Fred Savard at Danforth Tech. and figure painting in oils with John Bennett at Northern Tech.,  I joined Pauline’s group in the fall of 1991.  Since then, I have enjoyed workshops with the group: including…Wm. Vrsak, Don Cavin, Brian Atyeo, Frank Webb and many others.

It wasn’t until retirement years that I found myself embarked on an entirely new adventure of making art.  From hesitant beginnings, reading how-to art books, having gifted, patient teachers, I developed an interest and appetite which has led to such a satisfying study, ever on-going and never ending.  A life enrichment process!

Art has always been a special part of my life.  I love being with people with similar interests – drawing, painting and being challenged to always do better work.

After travelling the world as a naval wife with five children, painting offered something for me – my therapy!

Nancy Sinclair

I started watercolour lessons a few years ago at my cottage with a  wonderful artist and teacher Erica Ash.   When I moved to Aurora two years ago I was very fortunate to be able join the Westview Artists.

With the help of Pauline and the other members I have been able to learn more and enjoy my art with a very supportive group.  Most recently I have discovered Acrylic painting through local workshops.

Ann Wilson, TWS

I have been painting in various mediums for over 30 years, but fell in love with watercolours  along the way.  I have found art to be a wonderful communicator-with my ESL students and with my class at the Aphasia Centre.  On a more personal level, painting brings me the joy of artistic creativity and expression.
